sure I think among the important things that people ask me or or get discussed quite a bit is that I seem to be a natural speaker that I’m quite proficient at public speaking however that definitely was not constantly the case and it was a found out skill for me so whether it was the um overcoming the nerves part or the part around body language or even called The Positive walk I believe all of those were um sort of taught abilities so it certainly wasn’t something that came naturally to me and I worked very hard I think to get that ability of being able to speak um and I think something that made a huge impression on me for someone who was late Blue Moon introvert and relative truly shy in my younger years was that everybody deserves to speak so to be able to reveal yourself in a way that individuals understand I think was quite crucial to me and um I guess that’s why I worked at the school and ideally I am much better at it now than I was when I started I would certainly say so um and how did you can you inform us a little bit about how you started in um Finance like why did you choose a profession in finance and what was the the first point of contact in the financial world existed an adult impact or was this something that you were just constantly thinking about I would love to say that you know I always knew what I was going to do which was Financing but that was not the case at all I can come back when I began working it wasn’t.
uncommon simply to fall into your line of work for me I in fact wanted to be a legal representative from the time I was about 7 years old but at the time that I went to UNI there were numerous legal representatives that the unemployment rate with law was so high that you needed to do a double degree um so that was sort of five years of a double degree plus an extra year of law school and then 3 years practicing as a solicitor and I believed oh that sort of seem like an additional 10 years so I really ended and went up studying business at UTS so um similar to a Commerce degree um but throughout uni I um I worked at an Italian dining establishment and after that I tried to open an Italian dining establishment and to do that um I had to secure a loan with a NAB and actually I needed to repay that loan when it didn’t work out so um I I saw an ad in the paper and it stated do you want to be a stock broker and I thought oh yeah that sounds respectable yeah we’ll give it a go we’re here we go and um you understand I was fortunate in that sense due to the fact that I I do enjoy the work I love being able to comprehend businesses and to operate in a market where you’re constantly being able to keep up to date with what’s taking place in the world what’s occurring in regards to developments in innovation or biotechnology and science I think is an amazing thing so I love to read it and I never have a scarcity of stories to read when it comes to the marketplaces yeah excellent and between transition from oh I might wish to be a stock broker how did you become state inequities investment strategist how did that happen um was there.
did you work your method up to a specific position or did you just apply and then start from there like how did that occur sure so um I think when it concerns the financing world you sort of start everybody begins at a base level and then you move into the area that you have an interest in my area of interest is always markets and I took the view that um you understand when I began I didn’t want to simply um simply sort of I guess sell something that I was at first associated with so I made a big effort to stroll the walk and talk with talk which means anything that I was talking about I I made the effort to actually trade myself or invest in myself as well and I started in finance with the view that you know in any profession or in any occupation it generally takes you about 2 or three years of learning to comprehend the lessons involved and what was happening in that kind of world so I I began an investment journal with the view that um you understand I wished to find out as much about investing as possible in a sort of 2 to 3 timespan so in that timespan I sort of offered myself or I allowed myself the opportunity to lose cash as I believed to myself for the two to 3 years um that the the goal wasn’t to make as much money as possible however the goal was to find out the skill of having the ability to earn money so that I can use it for the rest of my life so that was an excellent period for me and I I discovered a lot of lessons I explored fundamental analysis technical analysis understanding services taking a look at market analysis I also took a look at things like alternatives trading which is a lot more dangerous however that was a fantastic duration where I I sort of laid the foundation of going into Equity strategy which I truly do enjoy and the factor I enjoy being an equity strategist is I like understanding cycles and how that effect on different companies and the various.
business environments too so um yeah it’s been a a long journey but one I I’ve definitely um delighted in so I’ve gone from presenting um things like basic analysis technical analysis tax effective investing alternatives to heading up an essential analysis system where I got to take a trip a lot to the United States and then I relocated to Bell direct where I was Equity strategist there for 11 years and after that relocated to do my own funds management company birming invests which I sold in June and now here I am at State Street Global equities and advisors strategists for the ETF location well incredible um during that period when you discussed um the two to 3 years of discovering how did you discover that your self-confidence was initially versus after the three years and how did you find um the resources to uh inform yourself like nowadays we have podcasts um I’m sure like before then we didn’t have a lot of resources available as we do now and was it through books or uni.
